THURSDAY NOVEMBER 19, 2009

This is a blog to remind everyone to remember Julie Phillips in your thoughts, prayers, (and if so inclined) a special fast on Thursday November 19, 2009. The bishop asked this of us in sacrament meeting on Sunday. The Salem 3rd Ward also will be having a ward temple session this same day. It will be the 7:30PM session, so remember to be there a little earlier. What a great opportunity for us as a ward to come together for Julie and to pull together as a ward...

SPREAD THE WORD

What the bishop said...

I was talking to Bishop Lynn this morning about Sunday, when the three Salem wards will become four. He said that we know of two things for sure. First, we know that we will all still be members of the same stake. And second? The gospel will still be true.

Thanks Bishop....

Ian Checketts Got His Mission Call!!

We tried to get everyone on the phone as Ian opened his mission call. It didn't really work out as planned but that was ok. He had all his buddies meet at the new house and Katie and Kris with Kelly and his family. He's going to New York Utica and leaves Jan. 27, 2010.
This is from Donna Checkett's Blog!
We wish Ian the best of luck and will do our best to get his mission address posted as soon as we get it so we can keep him in our Ward missionary list.

SALUTE OUR SOLDIERS

The theme for November's pack meeting is "Soldier Salute". Through the Scout office we have found a platoon in Iraq that is desperate need of some TLC. Most of the men (young at that) in this platoon are not getting letters from home and any kind of packages from home. So, we are going to help them.

We are looking for donations......These are some of the things these soldiers could use. Any quantity is great. We will be taking these items to the Scout office where they will be sending them out to them.

Snacks of any kind that won't melt
Tuna
peanut butter, jelly, pretzels, candy gum, crackers etc.
toilet paper (pretty pathetic that it is not being supplied for them)
flavored drink mix (koolaid, crystal light)
shaving supplies, deodorant (no aerosol spray), hand sanitizer, chap stick, sun screen, shampoo, toothpaste
paper back books, magazines, puzzle books (Sudoku, word searches)

If you have items you want to donate, call Karen or Alan Beagley to come get them OR bring them to the Beagley's home.

We will be sorting them at pack meeting in November.....November 24th.

Goodbye My Friend

For those of you who are not aware, Brother Dave Hirschi passed away yesterday morning (Monday, October 5, 2009). While this is bittersweet for many of us, I am sure that Dave is rejoicing in his reunion with his beloved spouse.

The viewing for Brother Hirschi will be Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday at 10:00. His funeral will be on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bill Hirschi Family, Mike Hirschi Family, Jolynn Davis Family and other members of the Hirschi family who have traveled to our ward during this time. We love you all.

Dave, you will be missed but not forgotten.

General Relief Society Broadcast

The General Relief Society Broadcast will be Saturday September 26, 2009. The Fort Henry's Stake will start with a dinner at 5 PM sharp, followed by the broadcast at 6 PM, at the Fort Henry's Stake Center. Grap your neighbor and come be filled, temporally and spiritually... Hope to see you there!!!

From Kay Williams

Hey guys I have a Whirlpool Duet front loader washer (6 years old) that runs but seems to have an intermittant problem, probably electrical, where it sometimes shuts itself off mid-cycle. It also occasionally fills with water after the cycle is completed. If anyone wants it I am giving it away. If you know someone that could fix it it would be an awesome washer! I talked to a repairman at Dennings who said it would most likely cost $75-200 if he fixed it.

Pack Night for our Cubs

Tuesday night was pack night for our Cub Scouts and what fun we had. We started out with not one but two graduation/Arrow of Light ceremonies. It was awesome to see Nathan Gerdes and Zach Jensen accomplish so much and be an example to the younger cub scouts.Zach Jensen and Nathan Gerdes with their graduation skins.

We then had a kite derby where we made paper bag kites, grocery bag parachutes, Bowman's were there to talk a little about "real" kite flying AND don't forget the homemade root beer floats. Yum yum!!

I wish my camera could take good night pictures because it was wonderful to see all the kids running around with their kites, and actually getting them in the air (the one night we actually wanted a breeze in Salem and there wasn't a wisp of one) . The sun was just setting and you could see the kites up against the red sky. What fun!

Our ward also earned the Summer time pack award which is a national award given by the scouting program. We held pack meetings all summer long and had great attendance. Yeah for us!!!

Back to School Night

Yep, it is that time of year again....Back to School Night.

This year the back to school night is being held on Wednesday, August 26th.

For Kershaw Intermediate School it begins at 7 p.m. and for Central Elementary School it begins at 6:30 p.m.

Another year, another chance to get to know our kids teachers and schedules. Plus I always love the opportunity to visit with other parents.

You keep me from getting lost....

Thank you to all who cheer me on...who keep me from getting lost.

Scared!!

Hi all. This is my first post and I'm not sure how to do all this but here goes.

My oldest, Stetson, has decided to join the National Guard. I am such a mommy about this. I know it's great to serve your country and all, but I am having a really hard time letting my first born put his life on the line. He leaves for basic on October 27 and will be gone for 8 weeks and then another 16 weeks to learn mechanics and small arms repair. He is really excited and I am trying to be upbeat and supportive when he's around.

My other kids are doing great also. Chelsea just started her sophomore year and Cassidy is now in the Junior High. They both like all their teachers and are excited about seeing all their friends daily again. My son Austin will start 8th grade in Ririe on Monday and can't wait! I will miss having him around daily, but I guess Ririe isn't real far away. lol Cassidy has been practicing volleyball and will try out Monday for the 7th grade team. I am rooting for her and she is loving it.

Our house has finally been started!! Dusty is doing a great job and the foundation is finished. The lumber for the framing is in my backyard and they are prepping my garage as I write this. I am so excited and love watching it progress.

I guess that's all for now.

Dunn Family Happenings

Connie had a total hip replacement on Friday, July 17, 2009. Today is Wednesday, the 22nd and already she is up and walking around. She says she feels better now than before the operation. We certainly appreciate her doctors from University Hospital in Salt Lake. They have done an excellent job. Connie will go back in to get the other hip replaced in about 5 weeks. After that she will get the other knee done. (she already has one total knee replacement.) She will really be the bionic women when all these are completed. We are grateful to our Heavenly Father for the blessings we have. What a wonderful time we live in!

What more can I say By Bart Lynn

One year ago today Pamela left for Salt Lake to begin what has turned to be a very long journey, much longer than we ever thought. Now our family can look back at the past year and see the hand of God in our lives as we saw Pamela's life come so close to ending. In August of last year after suffering a brain hemorrhage and laying uunconscious for 10 days we were told that she would not live more than a few hours. Now she is gaining strength and her miraculous recovery continues. Her doctors visit in Salt Lake went well today and there is no sign of the leukemia. We would like to thank our friends and family who have prayed for us and shared their love and concern for us. We have felt strength and courage come to us from all who have followed Pamela's story. We also want to thank our Father in Heaven for answering our prayers and sending the miracle that brought Pamela back to us. We offer our heart felt thanks and gratitude and testify with all our hearts that he lives. What more can we say.

Welcome Welcome One and All

There is so much happening in our Ward I thought it would be nice to have a blog where we can share what is going on and ask one another questions and get advice or just vent. I usually don't have time to visit with many people as I serve in the Primary. I hope you will feel comfortable sharing and contributing here. Also, I have invited the people I have email addressess for. Please provide addressess for anyone you may have so I can include them as well.
