Our combined Priesthood/Relief Society Lesson...

This last Sunday, we were taught by Brother Alan Dunn and Brother Dale McPherson some pointers about the Church's official website, lds.org.

We were taught that on the left hand column of the page, there is the First Presidency/Home Teaching message, followed by the visiting message. Underneath that is a few highlights of the doctrines of the gospel.

In the central column are updates from the LDS Newsroom, promotions about mormon.org, and usually the latest posting from the churches youtube channel. It's called Mormon Messages.
In the right hand column are links to preparing a lesson, tips to preparing a talk, a link to Stake and Ward websites, a link to Mormon.org, a link to the official LDS Newsroom, FamilySearch.org, a link to Mormon Messages (the LDS youtube channel), and also a link to the Mormon Channel (an LDS radio station, only on the internet).

If you have not yet registered on the LDS.org Stake and Ward website, you'll need your membership record number. That number can be found on your temple recommend or you'll have to go to the clerks office and ask for it. If you click on the Stake and Ward website, and you have not previously registered, click on 'Obtain an LDS Account'. You'll then enter your membership record number, your birthday, and the image in the box. When you hit 'Next Step', you will be asked to verify, who you are. You then go thru and choose a user name, a password, and enter your e-mail address and confirm your e-mail address. You'll go and check that e-mail address 'In-box' and follow the links and instructions to complete your registration.

When you are registered and sign in, you will be sent directly to your wards website. This website again is broken up again into 3 columns. In the left hand column, you can choose to go the the website for the stake, get 'News and Information', 'Lesson Schedules', a 'Ward Calendar', a 'Membership Directory' (which is where the ward directory list is), the 'Leadership Directory' (which lists callings in the ward), 'Missionary' (which lists current missionaries assigned to our ward, as well as those who are serving from our ward), and 'Resources'.

In the center column is the address, phone number, meeting times, and links to official church websites, missionary work resources, and additional LDS online resources.

In the column on the right is a list of upcoming events and the first link is a place where you can submit news. If you click on any of the highlighted events, you'll be shown a small window with the details. To see the whole calendar, go to the bottom of the list and click 'More'.

Even getting on and just clicking around, you'll get to know this website better and all the information and resources that it holds. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me at mchubby@hotmail.com, and list 'LDS WEBSITE' in the title, so that I'll know its not junk or spam mail. Good Luck!!!

Together in Fasting and Prayer...

“Why is it that when a ward [or group] comes together in fasting and prayer, it makes a greater difference somehow than if anyone had done so alone? In part because such united efforts of the Saints are a testimony unto the heavens—a witness that Christ and his purposes take precedence over our hostilities and personality problems. The revelation says, “Be agreed as touching all things whatsoever ye ask.” (D&C 27:18.) Or again, “If ye are not one ye are not mine.” (D&C 38:27.) Brigham Young, who learned much about prayer by listening to the Prophet, said repeatedly to the Saints that when someone prays in a congregation the rest of us should be saying in our minds what he is saying with his lips. We should repeat the very words in our minds. Then when we say “amen” we know what we are saying amen to. “Why?” Brigham asks. “So that Saints may be one.” The effectual, fervent power of united prayer cannot be overestimated. Powerful prayer unites the “Saints—unity expands the power of prayer.”

My new life...

Stake Conference...

Today was Stake Conference. If you missed it, you really missed it. This was the kinds of Stake Conference that most of your friends and family in Southeastern Idaho took part in. It was a shared broadcast from Salt Lake City to aprox. 73 stakes. Elder C. Scott Grow (from the 70)was conducting and the first speaker. Sister Barbara Thompson, 2nd counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency was the second speaker. She was followed by Elder Robert D. Hales from the Quorum of the 12 Apostles. We then stood and sang an intermediate hymn. Then the great treat... Our prophet, President Thomas S. Monson was our concluding speaker. Insightful to hear what he would tell us, those who live here...in our own little corner of the world. Like I said, if you missed it...you really missed it!!!

Just so you know...

Just so you know...

This year the Salem 3rd Ward meets at 11 AM at the Salem Ward building. Sacrament is first, followed by Priesthood/Relief Society and is wrapped up with Sunday School.

You can find out the leadership of the ward by logging on to the Ward website in conjunction with the church. Log onto http://www.lds.org/ . On the far right side of the web page is a quick link titled STAKE AND WARD WEBSITES. If you have not previously registered, you can sign up to register. You will need your membership record number. This number can be found on your temple recommend or you can ask for a Individual Ordinance Summary from our ward clerk, Dale McPherson. Once you log on, it will take you to the Salem 3rd Ward website for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. From there you can click onto links for the Stake, the leadership directory, or membership directory of our ward. As I look thru the information, I have found it to be VERY up to date considering the vast array of our recent overhaul. Even I, who was sustained as the Primary Secretary just last week...it's in there!!!

Today, I handed out the CD's for the songs that the Primary will be learning during this year. Although most families will get a CD because they either have a kiddo in primary or because they teach primary; if you want access to those songs, just click here... Another way to help teach the music, click here...

If you ever have something to add to this blog and want to be listed as an author, feel free to email me.

A bit of Salem history...

The first Bishop of the original Salem Ward, George H.B. Harris was called and set apart by Thomas E. Ricks on November 23, 1884. The Salem Ward was formally organized in February 1885 by the Apostle John Taylor. Bishop Harris served for 15 years. There were 13 Bishops of the original Salem Ward.
On February 11, 1979, Salem Ward became Salem 1st and 2nd Wards. Glade Wasden was called as Bishop of the new Salem 1st Ward and Paul Mortensen was called as Bishop of the new Salem 2nd Ward. In the spring of 1996, Salem 1st split again and the Salem 3rd Ward was organized with Mark Gehmlich serving as Bishop of the 1st Ward and Torrey Bird serving as the new Salem 3rd Ward Bishop.
On November 22, 2009 the Salem 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Wards were reorganized and a new Teton River Ward was formed. Serving as Bishop in the Salem 1st Ward is Cleve Bagley, Bishop of the Salem 2nd Ward is Charles Allen, Bishop of the Salem 3rd Ward is Bart Lynn and Bishop of the Teton River Ward is Kendall Grant.
